FIFI asked:
I had told the defendant’s wife as a friend that the husband was misusing their money by taking women out for lunch and he meds online without prescription had bought the receptionist a phone. Now this family has been having financial problems and the wife had approached me for a loan. So I told her she should warn the husband against squandering their much needed finances. However when she approached him, he denied everything and sent me a lawyer’s notice demanding an apology and if not received within seven days, he will file a civil complaint against me. At the husband’s place of work his collegues are all aware of his dating these women and also the purchase of the phone, but if they are willing to testify if this case goes to court is another issue. I would like to know what are my options in this case. Since it was verbal, won’t it be diffcult to prove? I could deny having told his wife anything? Will it be my word against hers? Please let me know where I stand as I really don’t want this issue to prolong. Thks

most likey he is just trying to scare you. the judge would probably throw away the case since there is no evidence. people say stuff like that all the time and the courts would be overflowing with cases if everyone went after each other for it.
Its only slander if it was spread maliciously, and it was untrue. I doubt that the husband would push the case in reality, because he has a lot to lose when the truth comes out in court.
You tryed to help your friend en it seems u ended up be the wrong one,Once your friend did wrong for saying you informed her en i think its wrong anyway just write an apology en leave them alone.
Dont care what happenes en they can strangle
DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING ! ! ! ,,,, If it’s all verbal and nothing was down on paper then it’s simply a case of one party’s word against the other and this guy has simply squandered more of his much needed funds if this legal notice is genuine ,,,, Most likely he’s gone this far in an attempt to cover himself with his wife ,,,, The fact remains though that the cat is out of the bag and sooner or later she’s going to wind up with more input where this is concerned and the situation then will bear you out ,,,, If the wife is curious enough to start wondering about her husbands fidelity then she will start her own investigation ,,,,
You didn’t ask for this but he’s coming at you with his teeth bared and his horns out just to try and convince his wife that he’s innocent ,,,, All you can do is just defend yourself and it shouldn’t matter how you do it ,,,, You didn’t ask for this it’s being force on you ,,,,
You need to retain legal counsel for this and there are lawyers that have a first visit free consultation stipulation to help you decide your options ,,,,Take this notice to a lawyer and show it to him and tell him the same thing that you said in your post ,,,,He will be able to tell you whether the notice is authentic or not ,,,, You need to be honest with him so he can figure out how to handle it ,,,, If you do retain legal counsel (which I think might be a good idea) then I would think that you have legal grounds for a counter suit against the accuser that would not only cover the legal fees incurred for your defense but also compensation for the very thing he is trying to sue you for ,,,, On top of that I would check into having a restraining order placed against him too just to be safe ,,,,
Actually if this guy has any smarts at all I don’t think it will come to that but it’s always smart to be prepared anyway ,,,, If this guy is stupid enough to follow through with this he will find this out when he’s laughed out of court ,,,,
I wouldn’t let this concern you too much though ,,,, Actually it’s kind of comical really ,,,, This guy is totally into over kill with this trying to cover up with his wife ,,,, Like I said talk to a lawyer about this ,,,, He’ll know what to do with it and where you stand ,,,,Also talk to him about that restraining order because you never know what a guy like this might resort to ,,,, This guy is spinning his wheels and going no where fast ,,,, I only wish I could hear the results of this situation ,,,,
Wish you luck in this ,,,, //
